1. Old Newspapers
Players should be able to find newspapers using /search. Upon reading them, they can not only find information about how the infection spread, but also things that may seem mundane and maybe they are, but what if they aren't?
If possible, there should be two or three news agencies that each give their own take on certain events. Make two of them biased and the third conspiratorial.
2. /describe
When in certain areas of the map. You get the option to type /describe and this will give you a description of what is around you, maybe give directions to a one time invisible /search command.
EDIT: If there will ever be a Perception trait or something similar. the /describe command should give more information.
3. Mysterious Radio Frequency
There should be several frequencies that generate text messages. Here are some examples.
Frequency 1. Emergency Broadcasts from before the world fell apart. These messages repeat every hour.
Frequency 2. A crazy survivalist talks conspiracies about the infection. However there should be a grain of truth to some of the things he is saying, maybe confirmed in the newspapers or better, in a /describe command.
Frequency 3. Morse code. Have two people talking to each other.
Frequency 4. Static that gets louder the closer you are to the place it's coming from. This might be a bit tricky to pull off in code.
Frequency 5. Haunted broadcast that says a bunch of horrifying things and at some point mentions the name of a random person online at the time. Again, this might be a bit hard to code.
Frequency 6. Military radio that talks about the situation outside of the LV area, but most of it is static.
Frequency 7. Survivors talking and sometimes calling for help. If the player goes to the location the survivor was asking help from, they should find a body or nothing at all. This frequency should also talk about the other frequencies.
Frequency 8. Numbers. That's it.
Frequency 9. It starts off with a single zombie growling(Maybe killing someone) and some sound indications of where it is, like a window breaking. It eventually evolves into a large group of growls that then turns into a herd and if you listen long enough, you can hear a tyrant scream.
